The encounter between the folk dance group Lous Castelous and Dalila Belaza is presented as a story that dissolves into abstraction. Using the medium of cinematography, Belaza and Louise Ernandez have created a narrative that takes the black box as its starting point. It is the place where everything can resonate with space and time...
Au cœur - le film is like a world in itself, one that might offer a glimpse of distinct elements within a dialogue. The gaze travels, revealing dance as something material. A narrative that unfolds along the delicate line between a tangible and intangible reality.
“When it came to imagining the film as an object, we saw in it images that were extremely close to those men and women forming a community; but we also saw images related to nature, the microcosm, the macrocosm, organicity, darkness, and light in order to create an analogy between the human world and a natural and
artifical environment.
Au coeur - le film positioned itself as a conversation, an interweaving between many worlds. You don’t really know if it’s reality or a representation, or whether it’s the end of a tradition or the end of a new world, a new language borrowing an unknown form of speech from the body. Or perhaps it’s a vision seeking to open up a territory, a community, a human being in order to discover a new horizon within it. “This encounter possesses an evocative power, and we immediately saw the possibilities of an ‘organic’ film without the rules of a classic narrative.”
