"For Rive, I have chosen to use the topic of rhythm as a guilding thread. My starting point was the pas de la bourée passed down from one community to the next like sliding from one reality into another. I was looking for what can emerge from the rhytmic persistence of this movement and how it can potentially spread through the body and through the space. A rhythm that, in its persistence, can display a telluric intensity and reverberate.
In this piece, that which is human allows itself to become a conduit and sheds any form of representation in order to enter into a vibrational dance connecting it to a dimension that transcends its condition. A state of sensitivity that enables a type of movement that is simultaneously free and composed. Searching for the body to become something else, traversed by countless images with rhythmic variations ranging from slowness to speed. Seeking to attain a form of jubilation.
I view the dancers appearance in the piece as an element allowing the value of time onstage to change as well as forming a presence on the threshold of reality and immateriality. At once a hallucination, an echo, and an atavism.
My intention in Rive was clearly to delve into an exploration of something dear to me, which contributes to bringing people together and questioning alterity, types of alterity. Inventing forms of ceremony that combine faraway worlds helps me to reveal what they have in common, what is living and timeless. A king of movement displaying memory as much as it displays forgetting.
In the respect, Rive develops and amplifies the movement initiated in Au coeur by taking it to the other side of the shore into the realm of a formless language, outside of time, in order to reach a state of transcendence."
